The Gaps in My Javascript Learning are Beginning to Close

I am really feeling good right now! I am most certainly still a novice, but I am finally understanding how Javascript operates.

I can not explain to you how clueless I was about coding! I was lost and the only thing I could do was pick away at my keyboard every chance I got. I had so many sleepless nights just staring at my computer fueled by a thrill of coding only real enthusiasts can understand.

I’d been attending my weekly Javascript class, thanks to the kindness of Tim Yang, owner of 355Code. But my classmates were literally 10 years old, I was pushing Karel the dog around a grid for about a year. I finally got to simple Javascript statements but I still didn’t understand anything about programming. I was reading articles and all over YouTube tutorials but the gaps in my learning were like chasms.

I realized that I was finally beginning to get Javascript when I recently began reading “Javascript Crash Course, A Hands-on, Project-Based Introduction to Programming,” by Nick Morgan. I checked it out at the local library.

I was amazed that I could comprehend the discussion of the language and grasp some of the basic theory of programming.

If I had of read this book when I first began learning Javascript I wouldn’t have been able to follow. That’s how much of a Noob I was…

This is my first programming language and it’s literally like learning to speak a foreign language. But this language structure isn’t based on nouns and verbs it’s based on a binary number system. I only knew the decimal system and never even imagined systems other than the metric system existed.

I am about halfway through the book and looking forward to getting into the projects.

I am really grateful I found this book at the library. I might actually be able to create a project worth sharing after reading this book.
